World Health Day devoted to Arterial Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)

05 Apr 2013 - 8h50 | By INSERM PRESS OFFICE | World day

One adult in three throughout the world is hypertensive and the proportion increases with age. It is 10% between ages 20 and 39 and 50% between 50 and 59 years of age. Sunday 7 April marked World Health Day dedicated to arterial hypertension.

If hypertension is not treated, it can cause blindness, cardiac arrhythmia and heart failure. Inserm researchers have been working to discover new treatments or improve detection of the condition.
