2013 World Blood Donor Day

Violence against children is not just another mere news item. It is a major public health problem. As in other countries that have a similar level of socio-economic development1, 10% of children in France are victims of physical violence, sexual abuse, serious negligence, neglect, humiliation, etc. Today, around two children die each day because of violence related issues involving adults. These reports in particular have led the French Senator André Vallini Anne Tursz, to organise a national conference that will be held on Friday 14 June 2013 at the Senate.

World Health Day devoted to Arterial Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)

Un adulte sur trois dans le monde est hypertendu et la proportion augmente avec l’âge: elle est de 10% entre 20 et 39 ans et de 50% entre 50 et 59 ans. Dimanche 7 avril, la journée mondiale de la santé sera consacrée à l’hypertension artérielle.

1 December: World AIDS Day

According to the WHO, 34 million people are currently infected by HIV. Only 1.3 million patients from poor countries have access to treatment and there are 6,800 new cases of HIV each day.

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) attacks the cells in the immune system, either destroying them or make them ineffectual. Acquired Immune Deficiency Disorder (AIDS) is the terminal stage of the HIV infection. It can develop 10 to 15 years after the initial infection.

Inserm can provide you with information packs about AIDS during the next World Aids Day on 1 December.
